Yoga Poses for Better Sleep

Are you having trouble sleeping at night? Yoga is a great way to relax the mind and body and certain poses can be especially helpful for promoting better sleep. Here are four asanas that you can practice before bed to help you sleep more soundly:

Child’s Pose
This pose is great for calming the mind and releasing tension in the back, hips, and legs. To get into Child’s Pose, start on your hands and knees, then sit back on your heels and stretch your arms out in front of you. Rest your forehead on the ground, a blanket, or a cushion and breathe deeply, feeling the stretch in your back and hips.

Fish Pose
Fish Pose is a great pose for opening up the chest and throat, which can help relieve tension and stress. To get into Fish Pose, lie on your back with your legs together and your arms by your sides. Slowly raise your upper body up, using your elbows and forearms to support yourself. Drop your head back and open your chest, feeling the stretch in your throat and chest. Most yummy and restorative for this pose at night is to place a rolled towel or pillow under your upper body and rest into it so your muscles can relax into this heart opening pose.

Corpse Pose (Savasana)
This pose is the ultimate relaxation pose, and is perfect for winding down before bed. To get into Corpse Pose, lie on your back in a comfortable position for you. Close your eyes and focus on your breath, allowing your body to relax and release any tension.

Legs-up-the-wall pose
This pose is very calming for the nervous system and helps reduce stress, anxiety, and insomnia. To get into the legs-up-the-wall pose, sit next to a wall and lie down on your back, with your hips close to the wall, then swing your legs up against the wall. Keep your arms in a comfortable position. This pose is great for reducing tired legs and swollen feet.

Remember to trust your body and trust the yoga. Incorporating yoga into your bedtime routine can help you sleep better and wake up feeling more refreshed. Give these asanas a try and see if they help you sleep better tonight! Let us know how it goes in the comments below!
